3 Family Fun Road Trips for the Weekend

Now that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is starting to shine a little brighter, it’s the perfect time to start planning your springtime road trips. With panoramic views of the ocean along Highway 1 and picturesque green fields on the way to Napa, driving to some of Northern California’s best destinations can feel like a dream.

Taking a short, weekend road trip will allow you to soak up some of California’s natural beauty and experience some of its greatest attractions. We’ve picked places perfect for your whole family, from grandma and grandpa to the teeniest tot.

Santa Cruz

One of the area’s most popular destinations, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, is a classic spot for kids, with rides fit for both toddlers and thrill seekers. For something mellow, head to Capitola for a bite to eat and some shopping at unique boutiques nestled alongside the coast. Of course, the area’s scenic landscape also caters to those who prefer to explore! Bask in the natural beauty of Big Basin Redwoods State Park, which happens to be California’s oldest state park.

Stinson Beach

With a population barely over 630, Stinson Beach is somewhat of a secluded beach that not everyone knows about, but should. This area is very suitable for a day trip! Grab a kite, some boogie boards, and a beach towel for a fun afternoon in the sun. Afterwards, have a family dinner at one of the amazing local restaurants.

Napa Valley

Napa isn’t just a destination for adults! While it is home to more than 400 wineries, the adventures aren’t just limited to wine tasting. Visit Old Faithful Geyser of California, a regularly erupting geyser located on 6 acres of property that includes a goat farm and a gorgeous picnic area. You may also opt to venture to a family friendly winery, such as Frog’s Leap (it’s also dog friendly!), for a wine tasting experience that caters to the whole family.
